At the moment ive got a kymco quannon (KR 125cc sport) brilliant wee bike for a 125cc and easily accommodates my 6ft 3" frame! and has a descent speed for a 125 had it at 75mph on a straight not downhill! But I'm needing something a bit more substantial, and that can actually accelerate up hills rather than ground to an almost halt!! So with a budget of £2500 and maybe a little more can you give me any ideas of 2nd hand bikes? I was thinking of a sporty looking 600cc but it would need to be restricted to 33bhp as I’m only 17.

Any ideas appreciated.

Depends on what sort of bike your after. Have you passed your test yet? Here is a list of 33bhp bike that wont need restricting and almost and other bike can be restricted.

Well i'm planning on doing my test in the summer when ive got some more cash together then i'm hoping to trade in my kymco, i was looking at the Suzuki GSX-R600 or maybe even a yamaha R1/R6 whats the opinions on these bikes? or any other bikes you recommend please tell. They prob will be the much earlier versions but depending on how much money i get, i do really like the GSX-R600 the 2006/7 verson the best lol

id be slightly concerned of powerful bikes like gixxers restricted to 33bhp. i have a feeling they'd be rather crap to ride because as soon as you got it to decent revs so it works properly the restrictor is strangling it. however ive never tried one so willing to be corrected.
something naked typically has lower bhp but similar torque to the same size sports bike. i'd expect these to take the restrictor better.

Yeah naked was my second choice as i did think that the ride would be stunted on the sportier bikes and i would probably wait until i could experience the GSX-R to it's full potential! biggrin rather than get a diluted experience!! lol have you got any ideas of good naked bikes?

I would just go for the bigger bike 600 - 1000 TBH. The throttle is not an on off switch and the bike is only as dangerous as you want to make it.
If you are daft you can kill yourself now, if you are patient and daft you can kill yourself later LOL.
If you are not daft, get the big bike and try to exercise some caution with that right hand.

If you're tall and want something that can be restricted to 33bhp you might just about find a versys in your price range. Everyone here's got different advice but I'd got for a 600 with a restrictor kit rather than a 33bhp bike, and then in 2 years time you remove the restrictor and effectively have a completely differnt bike for minimal cost. Agree that most sports bikes are probably crap with the restrictor though. Versys/Bandit/Fazer/SV650/etc are all good first bikes and should restrict ok.

I'm also not a fan of the idea of 600-1000cc sports bike for beginners. Yes its true you don't have to ride it like a loon but lets be honest, you will biggrin

If you like the twostrokes you might want to look at the RS250 or an RGV250, might even be some KR1S about still. True two stroke hooliganism in an even lighter package than a 400.
