Passed my bike test. W0000T!!!

Congratulations. Just in time for summer too. Depends on your budget, most of the non sportsbike 600's should be ok with a restrictor. You can get older less sporty stuff like Bandits or Divvies for peanuts, or brand new Fazer/Versys/etc for £££. There are quite a few bikes that only make 33bhp in standard form (someone on here had a list) which saves the hassle of restricting but you'll want to replace in 2 years whereas removing the restrictor on a more powerfull bike gives you more thrilss for less cash.

Well done! Perfect timing too with the weather being so nice.
With the restriction being based on power output rather than power to weight ratio your best bet is probably a small, light bike like the CB500, GS500 or ER-5. The restricted Fazer 600 and friend had wasn't too bad.

Well done. You can start practicing riding for real, now. Just think, you need never do another U turn...Congratulations
, can't wait to pass my test.
I too am pootling around on a CG125, it's obviously good to learn on, but takes such a lot of effort to keep up with the traffic. Although I was pleased with 67mph the other day!
Good luck finding the bike, bet it's lovely riding without L plates!

I bet you are looking forward to a taste of more power!
Of course the larger bikes can be restricted but will be heavy. Some of the bikes that can be restricted weigh an awful lot for 33hp to move about.
Don't therefore discount something light and agile, a number of bikes I am aware of that are 33hp or thereabouts stock are the Suzuki and Yamaha 350cc singles - DR350 and the Suzuki Goose (sporty grey import), the Yamaha XT350. Depends what you want from the bike.
All the older 125 2 strokes will be knocking on the door of 25-30hp derestricted.
If it was me (I was fortunate to not be restricted back when I passed in 1993) I would go for an Aprilia RS125. That is going to have a fantastic chassis, will be around 33hp and is light, so it will be a fair bit quicker than a heavy Bandit or something, restricted to 33hp. Heck a full power bandit 600 would have trouble keeping up with a well ridden RS125 in the twisties.
Of course, if you weigh a lot yourself you are thus a larger person and may find the Aprilia cramped and such, and any weight advantage is reduced accordingly. That said, if you are built like a jockey it is an ideal little bike!
No doubt there are plenty of options available and you are spoilt for choice, but try and narrow down to what type of bike you want and what suits your plans and post back.
You could whack a turbo on the CG of course! hehe

I'm a big guy (6' 200lbs) and so I'm after a slightly bigger bike. I just tried to get a quote on motorcycledirect online for myself on a CB500 and was told that that I can only ride a 250cc bike. I assume that this is incorrect and that they are not bothering to factor in restricted bikes. Am I right in thinking this?Of course, if you weigh a lot yourself you are thus a larger person and may find the Aprilia cramped and such, and any weight advantage is reduced accordingly. Anyways, thanks for the support, folks

Passed today. Megachuffed to bits
. Had a fantastic ride home, too.
Now I need to think of a bigger bike to get to replace my much loved but pathetically slow CG125. Any suggestions?? (restricted license BTW as I'm only 19)
First off, congrats on passing. I passed myself a few weeks ago.

As far as first bikes, you truly can't go wrong with an SV650s. I've got one (restricted licence) and I love it. FANTASTIC community over at www.sv650.org and plenty of bits and bobs / mods you can do.
2.5k will get you a fecking brilliant one. The bike itself is nice and light, fast enough to make you s
t yourself, and relatively cheap to insure.texasjohn said:

Bah, don't get a sport 2 stroke, you will spend all week rebuilding itI bet you are looking forward to a taste of more power!

No where near 33BHP derestricted anyways, more like 24.

What about the new Ninja 250...bang on 33bhp
well done on the pass, think I calculated the ninja at 30bhp a while back from the figures given, especially worth considering if your after a bike on finance. vfr/rvf/zxr 400's take little hurt from being restricted, rvf kept me out of trouble a few times when cornering and being a noob, I am still contemplating getting rid of a 600 and getting another I liked the bike that muchGassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Well done. Now the learning really starts!
