How can I get a bike...without g/f knowing? Is it possible?
Discussion
Before i start..please don't tell me just to go buy one - or grow a pair. The regulars on here know my story, so I won't go into again.
G/f has looked after me for a whole year in new house, without being able to do it up, because of the situation I was in. Now, I'm better and instead of being selfish, I am keeping my bike desires on hold. She deserves the new bathroom, garden done up, decorating done etc. She has looked after me and put up with all the s
t that came with. So, I've had the quotes and have the money in place. G/f has left all the arrangements for getting all this stuff done to me (since I have accrued so much annual leave over the last year, I can take time off).
Now, I could get some stuff slightly cheaper and get the bike, but I think she would go mad. She'd probably burn the garage down ! She thinks, get house done and save for bike next year. Maybe it's been the last week of sunshine that has affected me badly. The sight and sound of bikes going by me on the commute is starting to drive me up the wall.
Im spending a fair bit on the house, but reckon I could get it all done around 3k cheaper (enough for a decent run around), but that would mean she isn't getting exactly what she fancied.
Any advice? I know I will bite the bullet and save for the toy next year...but I'm getting desperate - just thought I'd ask the regulars what your thoughts were !!
All the best guys.
Hi mate -
I'm no expert on relationships
- but I've been married for nearly two years and love my wife very, very much. What I will say is this:
Any relationship requires give and take from both people involved. Often it will require sacrifice for the other person as the act of love should be that you put their needs, desires and ambitions before your own. If both people do this, it works well. Neither should be the doormat, neither should be the dictator.
What I would suggest is a trip to a restaurant for a meal and a drink. Explain to your girlfriend how you see things - you love her very much, that you appreciate how she has helped you out, that you have made sacrifices to let her have the kitchen. Find a common ground that you can agree on - either the kitchen is slightly cheaper now, for you to get the bike now - or you wait until last year and get a great bike
Guess what I'm saying is that you need to reach an agreement/compromise that you are both happy with. You have obviously supported one another so far and she should support you in what you want to do - taking an interest in one another's hobbies is important, it shows you care about the other person.
I shall get off my soapbox now

Without knowing your circumstances it sounds like you owe her big time, so any compromise on the spec she's after would probably result in a kick in the nuts (verbally or actually).
What I suggest is that you haggle hard for the spec she's after and see if you can save the £2-3k without her losing out
Suppliers and builders are all starting to feel the pinch now as developers put projects on hold, so they'll be glad to haggle if it means they get some work.
Shop around for the house stuff and the bike and I recon everyone will be a winner

Yup-as I said, I know I will bite the bullet. As she has said, I don't owe her anything, cos we do love each other ( ain't that sweet !), however I couldn't have got through the last year without her. She doesn't know yet, but I am taking her off for Xmas this year, just us off to a nice hotel for 3 nights to thank her properly for her support. Right now we can't speak about bikes without her slowly turning purple, so I shut it. She does deserve the house getting done, but I had to sell my bike last year....missing it very much
Will stick to my original plan and rent one for a few long weekends, worried that I won't be able to ride again after so long off the bike. I was a newbie after all, hopefully after a few hours I will be fine.
Just wanted to see if you guys had any humorous advice!
Good luck for your retest Sossige !

sometimes there are much more important things than a motorbike
Errr .... sorry, but you lost me on that one!!!!! Can you explain that in more detail so that I have a chance to grasp the concept??

My recommendation would be to not get a bike without her full knowledge and agreement. Ask her if it is OK if you can get the money together but accept the NO if that's what comes back. You never know, she may just say yes!
of course you can get a bike without the g/f knowing. there's always a way - one chap even rented a garage away from home to keep it and his bike gear in so his missus never found out.
but............
i agree with the rest. sounds like you owe her *a lot* and if i were you (which, i accept, i am not) i'd get her the kitchen she wants, then save my ass off and buy one next year.

How do you like your testicles? Grated or diced?
Women win every 'discussion' through a constant onslaught until agreement is reached. Some call it nagging. Tell her you are getting a bike, tell her again, and again and again and again and again.
I have to say : DON't Lie. Just keep going on and on and on.
If it comes to the crunch. YOU will have to make a decision her or the bike.
But at least that's your decision. If you lie (and she will find out) she will have to decide - you - the lying cheating b
d or freedom. Barry,
Listen to me mate....seriously!!!! Your OH has done the same as mine, but a million times more. Just think where you'd be now without her. Get the sh!t done to the house to her exact specifications! Then she'll love you forever, and might even help with the funding, but I'd put money of the fact that she'd have no probs with you getting a bike. Just finance it over a year or something.
Cheers.

She will have exactly what she wants, and more(hopefully). She hates any debt, apart from mortgage. So, I will work hard on the savings next year. Don't fancy taking a bike on finance, I love bikes, but since I'm a fair weather rider in Scotland I ain't going to be on it in come the autumn, so finance isn't the option. Just need to put in some O/T at work Listen to me mate....seriously!!!! Your OH has done the same as mine, but a million times more. Just think where you'd be now without her. How did your meeting go last week? How about your neck?
I'm off to paint now....much more fun than bikes

As someone who is going through some fairly serious relationship issues at the moment. Id say put the bike on hold If you do both love each other. that is more important... Trust me... sort the house out, make her happy talk about bikes and get one later... a year or so isnt that long in the grand scheme of things...

Sounds like the best suggestion to me, and tell her up front that if you can bring the work in under budget you'd like to put the funds towards a motorbike. What I suggest is that you haggle hard for the spec she's after and see if you can save the £2-3k without her losing out
