Planning an overtake video!
Discussion
Where do I start!
Well I do agree that this kind of video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGcJvYWeyho is great for new-bees but why is it so stiff?
I read on a recent topic on PH about a guy that was on the IOM bash and had an encounter with the BIB and he said that they realy talked sense. Just my thought that if the BIB want to get across to new and old bikers they need to get a bit down to earth and less stiff. Your thoughts please.

It may seem a little dry to us but I'll bet that the rider in the video didn't think it was dry! I have done advanced riding courses and while they are all based around The System (read Police Motorcycle Roadcraft) they have all been adjusted according to the skill and ability levels of the participants. On one such course I was paired with another competent and experienced rider and the instructor/observer had is hammering down some really nice roads at some pretty impressive speeds. We never broke any ‘in town’ speed limits and we never went above about 80mph on the open road but I traveled as fast on that weekend as I ever would have traveled on those roads, even in my younger ‘more loony’ days, and it was all done safely and smoothly.

I have no sound at work so forgive me if I missed something in the video, but I dare say you were getting a full comentary?
Most (all?) advanced road riding is based around Roadcraft and the application of what they call "The System". It is just a systematic approach to dealing with hazards that should leave riders/drivers with plenty of time to deal with said hazards.
Like anything, as you get used to it you do it automatically.

isnt that the sort of thing they do on bikesafe days? teach you improve your riding with the voice of their experience while not being all superior?
its what im hoping as i really should book one soon.
I can't see the vid at work but have just done Bikesafe.its what im hoping as i really should book one soon.
They do teach you the very basics of road, positioning, speed and hazzard perception and encourage overtaking.
I overtook a lot of cars while out with no problem at all. It's all aboiut ensuring the move is safe, then getting it done quickly while you still have a clear line of sight.
You'll enjoy the day
