Iv got a Honda CX500 engine in my jzr kit car that has been stood for the past 10 months. Shes been dry, jacked up in my garage with the battery disconnected.

Is there anything I should be looking out for before I start her up for the first time?

I only bought it a few months before I set off traveling so im not too familiar with the engine yet! Id be chuffed with any advice!

Thanks, Mitch

I left my bike stored for 12 months, and the advice from the garage was just to check the oil and coolant and then hit the starter. I did, and it's been fine!

However, there might be better advice out there, but 10 months isn't really such a long time.

If you just want to know if it'll run then check the levels are all ok and fire it up. If it runs OK then give it a good ole service.

Some of the early CX500 engines were prone to occasional big end issues. Once you’ve checked all the levels, it might be worth removing the plugs then turning it over until the oil light goes out. That’ll ensure that there is oil in all the right places before you put the plugs back in and start it.

Sounds like good advice to me. I was also going to suggest taking the plugs out, putting a little bit of light oil in to the cylinders and leaving overnight. Turn over by hand before firing it up.
