Had one as my first bike a couple of years ago. Mine used to use a bit of oil. I just checked it every time I rode and topped up as necessary (it didn't use that much really, just under a litre in under 12 months, used every day for a 20 mile round trip commute, and the odd spin for fun).
Good cheap bikes, will never set your heart on fire, but good for what they are. I delivered mine to my brother-in-law when I got my VFR, 70 all the way, no problem on a 3 hour trip (although a friend of mine tells me they'll happily sit at 80-90 all day long on the motorway... IYSWIM
).
B-i-L still running it, still no problems. Stored outside (as it was when I had it) under a cover, never missed a beat.

I've got a 900 Divvy. Quite different from the 600 though.
There's a friendly little owners group I use here: http://www.bikersoracle.com/yamahadiversion/forum/

its a 1998 model, it hasn't got the front fairing so am i right in thinking its a N model
Yeah that would be about right. Not exactly the most advanced bike on the planet and perhaps not quite as 'Ride it and forget it' as a Honda but certainly simple and pretty sturdy mechanicals.. Can't really go wrong for the price IMOkevr6 said:
I have the R6 for fun
Absolutely... So long as you don't hate riding the XJ it's there to do a job.
I have to admit i may chop the CB in for something slightly faster but i am picky.
However it's great having a bike you can ride in all weathers, park anywhere and not have to virtually give it a hug everytime you get home in bad weather.
It can be hard sometimes to remember the Hack is a Hack and not 'Great bike number 2'

yes its an old thread revival
looking at one on weds, 1997 15000miles how much should i be offering? Im hoping it stops me being a pussy and gets me used to bigger bikes again gently, plus i probably wont have to worry about it be nicked.

Does it need tyres, brakes chain and sprockets etc, no service history and no mot?
£350
Is it immaculate, 12 months mot, serviced every year from new?
£1200.
Everything else is somewhere in between.
