Well as the title says, my bike is due an MOT but is declared as SORN.

If i transfer my insurance onto it can i drive it to the mot station and back?

Cant find any info to back this up?

Well, you can't get tax until it is MOT'd, so logic suggests you must be able to. Call your insurance company to get their take on it.

Yes you can.

"
Driving to a MOT test when a SORN is in force

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at a MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for that vehicle.

Just make sure you have actually booked the MoT with the test station so that, if you are stopped, you can prove that you have an MoT arranged.

Oh, and, if it fails, you can also ride it home again.

Cheers.

If i move the insurance off my XJ to my R6 today but get the policy to actually switch over in 1 weeks time, will they dispatch the documents on the day that the policy starts or the day I request the change.

The reason i ask is that i want the insurance documents so that i can tax it - because it often does not go into the insurance database for a few weeks

No matter when the documents are dispatched, it will state on them the date (AND time) from which the insurance is valid.

Changing it over today will result in it being insured as of the point of changeover.

Yes, you can request a cover note, which will be dispatched first class post. The Cover note will include date and time from when the insurance starts.

TBH, in my experience, it's usually as quick to get the full docs as it is a cover note these days.

generally, you won't get away with a fax or photocopy.

Not if the insurance hasn't registered on the Motor Insurers database - this can take up to three weeks.
