Just watching a documentry on Sky and these guys claim their bikes are like the Ferrari or Lamborghini of the bike world.

"the way we build is like an artist would paint"

Are they really that good?

Dunno. think I'd rather have a Duc or an Agusta though.

I think Bims have always carried that exotica tag haven't they? I remember many years ago there was one i liked that used a particular 1000cc lump from one of the mainstream sprtsbikes but was much faster than the donor bike it came from, and it looked worlds apart too (yes i wanted one rolleyesbiggrin).

Not quite sure if they are over and above many of the more mainstream bikes, but certainly offer individuality as in them being rarer than many other bikes... Would i have one?! Yeh i reckon if i had money for a few bikes a nice looking Bimoto wouldn't go amiss smile

But IMO they're not particular better, just offer something different and a little more exclusive wink A specced up Blade/R1/Gixer/Duke would offer the same levels of performance for sure.

Think the main thing is a specced up Blade/R1/Gixxer would still look like any other sports bike, whereas the likes of Bimota/Benelli tend to look a little more outlandish, in the same way that a Lamborghini generally looks a little madder than a Porche, and will probably fall apart sooner.

I believe they are loaded with high spec components for sure-but aren't their models based only on Ducati motors
now ? i.e. no choice if you don't want a Duke lump.

At one time I believe they used the old Suzy TL1000 lump in one of their models?

Think the model names give 'em away:

SB = Suzuki Based
YB = Yamaha Based
DB = Ducati Based
KB = Kawasaki Based

(Made up the 'Based' bit - just how I always know them!)

They're awesome. Built with hi-spec components around a proven engine for individuals. Very, very much on my wish list!

KB1:

And an HB1 (must admit I didn't realise they'd used Honda engines!):

Yep--that's very tasty.

Bike's not bad either.
p.s. Srob-- even I don't go back THAT far to remember the KB1 ! Was that the Kwak Z1 motor then?
Love the pipes on the HB1 though-vintage cool cloud9

The V Due with their own 500 2 stroke could have been great, but was ultimately flawed and ruined the company

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bimota_V_Due

always loved the SB6 though, with the old GSXR1100 motor

those big 46mm forks looked enormous at the time

edit: there was a BB1 too, supermono with BMW 650 single engine

Who owns Bimota now?

I love the Tesi 1D most of all their bikes. I built a model one with working steering etc when I was a kid. I was so fascinated I ended up designing (but not building!) my own two wheel-drive, two wheel-steering bike which is what got me my design apprenticeship at this place. In my little head that's justification enough to get one, one day!

I nearly bought a BB1 (BMW Based? (as in BMW F650 used the Rotax engine about that time)) a couple of years ago. I looked at it for ages, phoned my brother who pointed out that I'd then have two vehicles I wouldn't leave anywhere, which was true so I walked away.

As for the KB1, Sprinter. I wasn't even a drunken fumble when they were about so don't know too much about them! Just remember seeing one. I'd imagine it would be either the Z1 or one of its derivative engines though.

Edited for spelling!

I must admit I'd lost touch with their bikes a bit. It's good to see that they seem to be doing OK.

Shameless pics of Tesi's through the ages:

They used to have a lot of Kudos, when Japs in the main, made great engines in some shocking chassis. They made a bespoke chassis, top running gear and took the best engines to make expensive, exclusive bikes. They even won a WSB championship 20 years ago.

These days, there are not many minging chassis coming out of Japan, so Bimota are less able to improve the product dramatically.

The last great Bimota was the SB8R that took the great TLR1000 engine and put it into a light decent chassis.

Their V Due project pretty much killed them, although it would have been awesome if that bike had lived up to the hype.

No way like a Ferrari or Lambo, I would say a more accurate comparison to cars, would be Pagani or Ascari

Actually year before the championship became WSB, when it was the F1 championship. 1987.
