Seeking advice on a 1999 R1, anything to look out for reference reliability etc ? Bike has covered 8700 miles, 1 owner from new and can only be described as better than new!(in appearance)

shouldnt have any probs , providing you stick to the service intervals and keep it maintained , my ZX6r now has 25k on the clock and is still going strong

Stating the obvious here Tony but make sure that all the numbers match up and are verified by the history.....not forgetting an Hpi check

Ive known the bike from new as a mate owns it, what sort of money should it be? he"s asking for 4k which includes a brand new harris race can and pit stand, the frame and wheels have been profesionally polished and it can only be described as "new", what do you think ?

I would say around that sort of money. The problem with R1's is that there are a lot for sale.
Have a search on the Autotrader and you will see what i mean...nice bike tho.

Tony,

Que the music from X-Files.

I own a 1999 R1. Bought from a mate who owned it from new. It's done 8700 miles.

VERY spooky.

If you don't mind - how much are you looking to pay for it?

Danny, VERY spooky indeed ! finally got it for £3.5k with some bits previously mentioned. Had a few bikes before this one last one being honda blackbird, how do you rate yours? and have I bought at the right money?

Picked the R1 up yesterday and went for a long ride back and after being off bikes for 3 years I found it a tad uncomfortable to say the least, my last bike being a honda blackbird (which was very comfortable in comparison) still, plenty of time to get used to that eh ! Biggest difference for me though is in the weight between the bird and the R1, the latter being much more "chuckable" into corners etc. By the time I got home I was really enjoying the rideout and felt like going on for more but my wrists were aching so called it a day. Roll on summer days !!

I did the same - went from Blackbird to R1 - different animals, but both brilliant. Trouble with R1 I found that you go into 'race mode' every time you climb on - it just doesnt do slow!!
And by the laws of natural progression you'll be ater a TVR next.....

I did the opposite..bought 2001 R1, buggered my back, sold it and bought a TVR
Miss bikes though Oh and the R1 is all the bike you need, Effing fast and one of the best looking (IMHO)
