ok i might be jumping the gun a bit as i haven't even got my liecence to ride anything bigger than a 125. But i want to get a feel for the value of these bikes. I am looking at getting something post 96 after my DAS, but i don't know what to look out for on these bikes.
Does anyone have a "check list" (if it were) for these Honda's? If i go out and get one privatly i want to know what to look for before i buy a dud.
Thanks

Mine is Good money @ £3K, there are a few for £2.7/8, but don't have history or have bad plastics.
There is a huge jump in age of the between £2-3K from like 10 years difference.
Check the normal chain, fluids, tyres, forks, plastics barends, hpi check, pads, disks & if you can the gearbox. The FX one is know for missing gears.
P.S
Your not gonna go far wrong with one 'it's a honda'

with respect mate, a cbr6 will be quite a beast for a newbie. Not wanting to dampen your enthuisiasm at all, but this is a whole new dimension in performance from a 125.
I've had a few fast bikes now, but in the early days when I went from 60bhp to 100bhp, I crunched it up badly after only 400 miles. Luckily only broke 2 toes.
Up to you, but please think about it!

Badapple that is a very nice example of the CRB6 that i was after (colour options). I was also looking at a grey and orange option too.
I was after the CBR6 as i have read nothing but excellent reviews and comments. Also reliability is now a big selling factor (hence Honda) as the current bike i have just cuts out when it rains (very dangerous espically on corners)
Like what Tvradict said, your bike has come onto the market too soon. I would def considered that bike

Luckly im not the kind of rider that will push the bike to see what its made of. I don't even go into the red on the 125 im on now. I have thought about working my way up the engine sizes like a 250, then 400 then 600. But i think it would be best and cheaper to get a 600 and take it easy.
Not always the best to wait
I went from never having ridden a bike to 80bhp (Bandit) & 8 months later 100+bhp (GSXR600) with no problems.
I would suggest doing something like 60-90bhp before a supersports 600 though.
If I had brought the GSXR for my first bike I would have been afraid of the performance and wouldn't have enjoyed the experience.
Having said that the CBR is well known for being a very good first big sportsbike.
Tim.

CBR6 is a good bet for a first big bike. Or what about a Thundercat?
4-cyl 600s are placid enough at lowish revs that they won't scare you, but have have enough of a high-rev rush that you won't get bored of them. You sound level-headed enough to speed up gradually.
Just make sure you fit some crash mushrooms for when you accidentally drop it - that plastic is fekkin expensive.

I was looking into this mushroom thing. I have seen them on some bikes and it looks like they are attached onto the bulk of the engine...? Not knowing much about bikes (hence all the questions and buying all the mags about bikes that i can get my hands on) won't that have some kind of affect on the warrenty?
