Does anyone have advice as to registering a 1996 RT-10 in the UK? Specifically in terms of how and where to get the modifications done that are necessary to pass the MOT? The car is over 10 years so is SVA exempt I believe. Also, what's the best method to transport the car from the port? I'll have a long way to go (north of Scotland) so a transporter might be the better option rather than driving (all the drive would be fun )? Thanks in advance...

I'll be taking the car to Inverness initially. I've got quite a few friends from Lewis. What part do you stay in?

Hamish

Inverness, I was brought up in Inverness - small world!
Stay In Stornoway itself on the seafront just along from the ferry terminal.

I take it you are working in the US and sourced the car while there?

I have a lot of contacts in the US nyself and Wonder how do the economics stack up versus simply buying one in the UK?

cheers Finlay

You've obviously got a far larger selection of cars to choose from in the US. I bought mine 18 months ago here in California for $41k (although you need to add sales tax onto that - yes, on a second hand sale between private parties!). So I ended up paying the equivalent of about £25k (at a conservative conversion rate). But it's a very nice one, with 19.5k miles but with the gasket recall engine rebuild done at 16.5k miles. It's also got smoothe tubes, filters, roller rockers, headers, high-flow cats and cat-back exhaust fitted and is soon to come back from the shop with 3.55 rear gears, heads and cam work, lightened flywheel and larger throttle bodies. To get it shipped door to door (from where I stay in CA to Inverness) and registered will cost about £3k (I'm able to avoid UK duty and tax since I've owned it here while a resident for >6 months). So a total of about £28k but for a very nice example with some good, reliable mods. I can't sell it for a year once I have it in the UK (due to customs regulations on avoiding tax and duty) but would think about it after that.
