I insured with Adrian Flux and told them it comes with a factory fitted alarm and immobiliser which they accepted,it gets a bit complicated if you try and fit another system alongside the factory one which is built into the car.
s t r a n g e ! my quote's from them and i was told the US factory fit was not a recognised system (by thatcham....?) in the UK??????????????? gotta sort the deal tomorrow so will quiz them again.well... drilled A Flux again today and they're adamant stock system won't do and i won't be covered against theft and have to get one fitted within 30days of policy start.... even after mentioning (no names) many uk viper club owners, inc others covered by A Flux, had not had this condition imposed.
"For a car of this value, thatcham cat 1 or superior device needs to be fitted"
more inclined to go for tracker but if thatcham alarm is still required as well, it would just have to be alarm (most are apparently easily disabled and / or make a mess of the electrics whereas i guess tracker would be left alone and it's just a case of catching the joyrider before the damage is done....?)

most likely not, I doubt thatcham is recognised or even heard of outside the UK
thats the trouble your encountering, mines a Chrysler and im with A.Flux to (no problems) We've noticed in the past here there is a difference between Dodge and Chrysler vipers when it comes to insurance companies
having said that though acrman has a Dodge

The viper stock alarm is definately not thatcham approved. Thatcham is a U.K based company and no american cars have stock thatcham approved alarms. A complete pain but luckily I have Dave who works for me . He is an authorised Clifford dealer and Rac Trackstar for trackers. I can not recommend him enough.

That is the exact same argument i had with Flux i managed to talk them into a tracker rather than CAT1 but then got a better quote with no added security with Headley's....

just getting my pencils arranged in order

I have the annoying 2 fobs thing but have only 1 set of keys. I have already sourced a new key and am looking for a new standard Viper fob so I can at least get in the car and disable the immobiliser should the worst happen. I have found the part I want in the ViperStore for $90 but wonder if its the same part for my car as I have a Euro model. Does anyone know if it will work?
Also, I'm with Headley but still have to have a thatcham 1 alarm, has anyone managed to replace the standard alarm with a new one thus giving the best of both worlds? I'm pretty sure you could also get a new alarm with a boot catch release as well (I have a 97 GTS so have to fold the number plate and use the key...)
Cheers,
Mark
