The lust-inspiring Daytona Coupe that failed to sell at auction in the Spring, has finally found a new owner who paid $7.25m for the privilege of owning one of the most iconic US cars ever built.

The car sold for the record-breaking price at the Pebble Beach Auction in Monterey at the weekend.

The Daytona Coupe in question is the 1965 FIA GT World Championship Winner, chassis number CSX2601, but the auction has alerted us to another interesting fact.

This particular car is said to have also been licensed for road use, and one former owner was a Dakota businessman who owned petrol stations across the state. He reportedly used it for a daily 300 mile round-trip collect the takings - well, you would, wouldn't you...

LOVE THOSE CARS!!! :dribble:

And to think Olde Shelby didn't want these cars to happen, Peter Brock is the credit to this car, but since it turned out well Shelby cashes in on it now under his 'title'.
