Hi all,
Picked up my newly acquired 1998 Chimaera 400 on Friday and before I got home with it I noticed a noise which turned out to be a leaking exhaust manifold.

I've checked where it is coming from and it is definitely the manifold.

I'm assuming it's best to replace rather than repair, so can anyone tell me where is best to get a replacement from and how much it is likely to cost please?

Cheers,

Ged

Are you sure you need a manifold?

It's quite common for it to be a leaking gasket.

Yes, as I said in my original post, I've checked where it is coming from and it is the manifold that is leaking.

I took mine off and had them welded up. New ones cost a fortune.

There doesn't seem to be any on eBay at the moment, may be worth a try with the breakers, there's some in the classifieds section on here.

Hi,

I have a spare pair ... I just had mine re-faced on the gasket sealing surface and de-catted. My plan is to do the same to my spare pair and sell them on so if you're interested p.m. me.

Wherever you get some from, worth having them re-faced to ensure the best seal...

Cheers,
Sam

Back to exhaust manifolds again. Could someone please let me know what is considered a reasonable price for second hand exhaust manifold with O2 sensor?

Remove them and fill up with water ,you will see it leaking from the four in to one section, caused by duff engine mounts.

Seem to recall seeing some for sale in classifieds not long back. Hard to say what's a reasonable price as you don't see many for sale.

Would filling them with water not damage the pre cat brick?

Don't think water would show a small leak unless it had substantial head to it. [eh daz]
Better way to find a leak is to pressurise it with air and have the outside smoothered in soapy water.
But, then again didn't you say you already know it was the manifold leaking?

yes, the one fitted at the moment is leaking, but I want to check any replacement prior to fitting.

Thanks Silicone, however I did ask for a second hand MANIFOLD with O2 sensor, rather than a brand new O2 sensor alone.

So, hopefully third time lucky, can anyone let me know what is a reasonable price for a second hand EXHAUST MANIFOLD with O2 sensor please?

Cheers,

Depends if they are any good wink

They are £900 per pair new in stainless.
