Ok, before any of you comedians suggest a big growly V8 metal thingy..... I mean on the underside of the bonnet.

I have the aluminised matting in the 4 inset parts of the bonnet but the 2 diagonal ribs are not covered. The area where the ribs cross over must be just above the Y-piece of the exhaust and this area looks a bit charred. Of course it gets a tad warm in there so should there be a heat shield in this position on the bonnet?

Help appreciated as I'm a bit concerned about my P&J turning into a mobile fireball.

Well you can EFF OFF, spoiling my evening not letting me do just that :BIGsulk:

2 bonnets..
Early lightweight with full heat material and ally bar cross bracing (single panel, total fg<>heat insulation and big air gap)
Later moulded fg bracing is just as you say, compartmentalized insulation and reduced clearance particularly to the v hot bits.

We had to do some very careful checks on clearances above the Y for some of MikeyJ's turbo projects, let me just say the early bonnet is better but does rely heavily on the fixing at the sides of the tubular ally cross braces - mine certainly doesn't flex as long as the spoiler is there.

Mine is the same, but as the aluminised matting was falling off I put new on and covered the X as well. I'll post a pic tonight. I got the new sections for someone who had bought them but not fitted them and sold his car.

Thanks gentlemen. Pink, a pic of your mod would be v helpful. I've sent off for some extra matting to do something similar as I don't want the fibreglass on that crossing of the two ribs to burn away.

If this isn't a common problem I wonder if my Chim runs a bit warm in that area.

I posted a similar thing a few weeks ago on here, mine is the same. Bit of burning/scorching above the main cat.

Seems like a normal thing.

pics as promissed.
The centre of the X was cracked and brittle, so I removed all those bits and re glassed it before covering.
the X is covered in Heatmat from CBS.

Finished bonnett underside.

Looks like a nice thorough job. I wonder why the factory fit didn't do this.

Ah, I know. So we'd have something to tinker with ourselves.
