I know this subject has been gone through many a time before but does someone have a definitive answer as to the origins of the PAS rack used on a Chimaera? e.g. is it a re-valved Granada rack or is it a Granada rack with different track rods? or what......?

Cheers,

Ged

The original S series and early griff rack was based on vauxhall chevette - and later chim / griff were made to the same pattern. Basically a chevette rack with ford trackrods and modified inner balljoints - but with the addition of power steering.

I've got some pics of internals (inside the gaiters) of a chevette rack, chim PAS rack and V8S manual rack somewhere if anyone is interested.
I need to get out more. rolleyes

Gents,
Thanks for the info.
Chevette is a blast from the past!

Barkychoc,
Pics would be much appreciated.

I was under the impression TVR's 'own' rack was an aluminium version of the original Rover Burman designed rack?

Interesting........95 4.0HC Chim was in for a service and pre MOT check ( garage does not do MOT's) and I'm told that the rack boot is busted. I assumed it could be repaired / replaced with relative ease, but perhaps not. Any ideas?

power steering gaiters are possibly same as some variant of Granada ? Bought some a while back part no. on invoice is QG2300but can't recall where I found info. quite possibly the advanced search here ?
Alternativly, Unlike some parts, I think they're quite competetivly priced by some of the TVR specialists.

HTH.

I did a better thread than this somewhere but can't find it.
Hopefully this is of some use.

I've also got a word doc somewhere with similar info - maybe a few more pics - if you PM me I'll send it by return when I find it.

I agree they are ACE. After my 3 rebuilds (by others) they fixed mine permanently.

Hopefully this is too much of a tangent from the original thread.
I have a minor leak from the offside rack gaitor, is it possible to replace a seal to rectify it???
