Starting Woes....

I have done a quick search on the threads but nothing jumps out. I went to start the car yesterday morning (having used it the daily for the past few days). When you turn the key you can hear the whirring sound (whihc I think is the fuel pump - excuse my ignorance here). the car turns over and for a few of the turns it sounded if it was about to fire, but no joy - thinkin i had flooded it i left it for 10 mins and then tried again but no joy - thinking it may need longer i left it until lunchtime cam home and tried again, this time it did not even try to fire (but turned over ok etc). This makes me think that there is fuel starvation - ie there was a little left in the system in the morning which then wwas used/evaporated.
The fuel guage reads over half a tank - which stacks with the last fill up( its dodgy below 1/4qtr tank on mine) so its not the obvious. I am going to check the fuel cut out switch - but would the fule pump still whirr if the cut out had "cut in" ? The car was parked on a steeper inclinve that night than usual - but I rolled it down to a flat bit of ground when trying to get it started. Any ideas / help ?

I'm sorry I can't help with your problem, but I can confirm that when the fuel cut-out switch has been trembled (activated) the fuel pump does not whirr, so that is not it!

Look - mmight sound silly.
1. Alarm
2. Immobilizer (Wont crank tho)
3. Buzz left ear (already sorted here last post)
4. HT leads.
5. Dizzy cap.
6. Coil - Any oil dripping?

Anyone else for a quick fix here?

Unlikely to be fuel system given your symtoms. Try your coil and HT leads.

Justin 0 ther end of the coil (where the lead attached is damp and it looks like oil - is there oil inside them ? - However I swpaped coils with another TVR and it still didnt seem to start. The full pump is priming and working, ther plugs are very wet - although i dried them out, cleaned them stuck em bak in and no joy. There appears only to be a very faint spark.... we also tried swappingn the main lead from the coil to the izzy but no joy either.....

The details you supplied sound just like when my coil B*ggered up.........I was told then that the 'signs of oil' around it/under it are signs of it being on its way out.......the dealer told me they started to do a visule check for these signs whenever they service the car as a first signs check.....

Other than trying the Leads, I don't really have any suggestions for you....sorry

the coil simon tried is off my '93 4.0, I guess its the same unit as his '97 5.0 ?
