What speed/revs in 2nd gear ?

I know I hit 90 leptons before I change from third into fourth, but I've never looked to see what speed I'm doing when I change gear from 2nd to third. This is because a)one eye is on the rev counter and the other one is on the road, and b)Im usually too frightened to look anywhere else. So, anyone know what mph's are at around 5500rpm in 2nd??

Measure your speed at 2750 revs and double it

Seem to think I've had 70mph in second (Chim 500) but also can't remember really looking.

im told 27mph / 1000 revs in top

ive checked against that measure and seems right

I have to change from 2nd to 3rd just prior to hitting 60mph, so I would say @6000rpm in 2nd i'm doing 55mph, but as above bloody difficult when you are trying to keep your eyes on the road too.

Think it must depend on each individual car as I'm getting 64-65mph at 6000rpm as I need to change.

For ref its a 2000 W reg 450.

T5 g'box has higher second gear than the Rover box in older cars plus tyre size/wear will make a difference.

From the table in Steve Heaths book using 225-50-16s should give nearly 69mph at 6000rpm T5 box, 64 with Rover box
