help 400 need new clutch!!where to get it???
Discussion
I have just fitted a Helix clutch from V8 Developments.
It's an uprated pressure plate and good quality driven plate, apparently suitable for tuned 5.0 litre cars with 300hp plus.
Perhaps a bit of overkill on my 4.0HC but it does cover me for future mods like a supercharger.
It wasn't that much more than a standard 4.0 litre clutch from a TVR specialist and when you consider the work involved in fitting a new clutch I figured I may as well buy the uprated one.
Like most new clutches it was slightly grabby for the first 100 miles or so, but it's absolutely perfect now.
When I researched all this I spoke with Helix about how the uprated cluch would feel.
The Helix technical department said its got 25% more clamping force but is only 10% heavier at the pedal.
TBH I haven't really noticed any increase in the effort required to disengage the uprated clutch over my old standard one.
If you do a Google search on Helix Clutch you invariably end up in a Subaru forum, the Subaru boys all seem to rate Helix very highly.
For the Rover V8 Helix clutch you need to go through V8 Developments, Rob is a very helpful and honest guy.
All in all I am very happy with the uprated Helix clutch.
Finally for a smallish extra outlay I purchased a lightened flywheel from Rob which has made my engine rev much better, highly recommended.

doesnt lightened flywheel mean less torque though?
I think the point is the 4.0 litre cars are fitted with the same flywheel used in the Rover SD1.This massively heavy flywheel is probably perfect for a big four seater saloon car that weighs over 1800kg, but ask yourself this question:
"Does a 4.0 litre V8 sports car that only weighs 1060kg really need a flywheel with the same mass as one fitted to a big heavy saloon car?"
Lets face it torque is in abundance with the RV8 anyway, personally I am happy to trade a bit of torque for a more revable engine, it's a sports car after all.
The fact is after fitting the lightened flywheel my Chimaera is nicer & more fun to drive with no perceptible loss of smoothness or driveability.
In fact the engine now feels smoother, well worth doing if you are replacing the clutch.
