Removing the rear light units

Any ideas how? The GF has hidden my bible at the moment and I'd like to get the units out so that I can replace with the new ones. I had a look last night but I couldn't see anything obvious. They look like they are glued directly to the fibre-glass but that can't be right, can it?

So, tips today and I'll give it a go tonight. I'll write this all up in a FAQ when I finish.

Bonded in with similar sealent as windscreens. Needs to be cut out very carefully so you don't damage the boidywork and end up with a respray.

Bugger. Oh well. I suppose it's a bit of silicone sealant to bond them back in?

Rob,

Do you mean removing the light cluster, rather than removing the outer smoked cover ? If so, then you need to do the following ;

Remove the carpet cover (velcro)
Peel back the carpet on the inside edge of the fibreglass surounding the light cluster.
Unscrew the (in my case) 2 self tapper screws (might be difficult to spot as they will be covered in sealant).
Unscrew the 2 obvious screws in the top corner of the cluster.
The cluster will now just lift out.

I'm interested in doing the same thing and putting some of the Quad Conversion afterburner units in. Am I being really thick about the whole thing or can I do it without having to take the outer smoked cover off? I'd rather not if it can be avoided because I'm not the best when it comes to the silicon sealent, the bloody stuff just seems to go everywhere!

Bingo! That's exactly what I'm after. Right, I've got to be in work early tomorrow, so I should be home early. 4/5/6/1000 screws (you know TVR) here I come!

I've put my original cluster back in for now. A word of warning, if you do this, make sure the holes for the screws line up exactly or you may crack the lenses. I nearly did that.
I haven't decided yet how I'm going to put the screws into the new lights. I may use the existing holes and drill small pilot holes into the new light clusters. When you put the new clusters in, I would think you will neeed to make sure that they are a tight fit against the black rubber strip. Good luck!
