dull repeated question re best tyre choice

ok, dont reckon my rears are going to last the le mans weekend so planning on getting them replaced beforehand.

Up front its running a not particularly TVR based Bridgestones Turenza or something or other. They were put on the car just before I bought it so have only done a few 1ks and dont really want the expense at the moment of changing them for the sake of it. Enough to worry about with considerable car expenditure (£2k ) this month.

So whats best to stick on the back? Was thinking of taking the SO3 route but any advice I would be interested to hear...

I have Toyos on the rears and they grip like So when i need fronts i'm changing them to Toyos too.

Just changed from SO3 on original wheels to Toyo T1 on my new wheels (up an inch front and rear) and the car seems to grip harder, and lets go more progressively too. I can only assume this is down to a combination of compound and sidewall stiffness (the Toyo sidewalls are much less stiff than the SO3s).

Not sure what wear rate will be like, but treadwear marking on Toyos says 280 (not horrendous) and they are significantly cheaper than the SO3 equivalent.

Overall, recommend the Toyos whole-heartedly.

Hi there,

I'm in exactly the same boat, rear SO3's (225/50/16) won't last Le Mans and so need to replace them and have been reading through all the tyre discussions. I'm thinking of trying the Toyo Proxes T1S's but want to be sure that I'm not asking for trouble mixing them with SO3's on the front, which are lasting forever!!!

Avons are great... if you're looking to save lots of money (£95 a tyre and last for years!)

Having run Toyos for a grand total of about fifty miles so far, I'm happy with them. I agree with verysideways, having also just "inched up" (Look at my profile - the wheels look the dogs!!)

One advantage of Toyos over SO3s is also more money left over for beer.
