Any one changed there fuel pipes in the engine bay.Mine is a MK1 and different to the later cars, had a look at the later model and i can see the conection from the copper the rubber hose.Mine disappears behind a large air duct..Its a job ive wanted to do for ages..Both pipes drop behind the duct on the off side . Had a look underneath and i can see the two copper pipes rise up close togeather in to obscurity.

They are a bloody nightmare. One seems to connect to the copper pipe fairly near the exhaust manifold and is fairly straightforward, but the other joint seems to be slap bang on top of the bell housing. Not sure how one gets at it.

Wonder if i could fit longer hoses and connect lower down but heat could be a problem. The later cars are easy but the duct stops me seeing anything..

I just changed the hoses on a mates Chimaera. It also had the fuel feed connecting in the middle of the bellhousing. I could only just reach it despite having the car on ramps and the exhaust off. As the jubilee clip also had one edge of the 'bolt' mangled there wasn't a hope I'd get it off.

I cut the copper close to the chassis on the passenger side, just before it bends to go over the exhaust and bellhousing, then put longer rubber hose in.
To be on the safe side I got the hose onto about 4 inches of copper and double clipped it.

We might go back to it later as he'd already bought braided hoses and ideally wants to use braided

I've been thinking we could either
put in a short braided hose to reattach the copper I cut off and use the braided he already has up to the fuel rail.
Or
Get a longer braided hose - I measured 1 metre to be more than enough.
The jury is still out.

By the way, the hose I took out was original (stencilled 98) and it was buggered. I'd never have got in the car if I knew what they were like before I changed them.

You must have the supplementary cooler/blower fitted Daz(same as I)because my brothers car is a MK1 same year too and he as not got the hose running over the bell-housing as you describe(no blower fitted)we did the clutch the other day and you can see it much more easily with the box/bell-housing removed, although I am not suggesting you remove the gearbox to gain access laugh but the hose you have does obstruct the pipes you need to access somewhat frown

I cant even see the Jubilee clips from underneath or from the top,how the hell do i work on something i can`t see.!Maybe longer hoses are the only option ,other than that remove the duct ,its a waste of time because it blows warm air ...should be cold fresh air bowing in to both footwells,it must be warmed via the hot engine bay.Im not going for braided hose, can`t see how it can help,it will get even hotter due to the steal braid.Im going to sleeve it ..This or the other stuff

Daz,

I've got a '93 430 & I did the fuel lines when I was adding the Plenum spacer, so I had the plenum off and I disconnected the air duct pipe and stuffed it out the way & I found I could use "Feel-o-vision" to do up the Fuel Jubilee clip... but I was lying across the wing & leaning on the trumpet base type area (I had the trumpets off as well so I could add the bell ends.. ooh err)
