Not sure why.... i have only ever hit one "thing" in 11 years of driving... but yesturday:

11am: road from Ashby to Melbourne - cat runs out, hit it at about 15mph (flat spotted tyre) rolled underneath and dissappeared into the woods, couldnt stop to check on it due to heavy traffic. stopped later on to remove hanging number plate. Not happy about this as im a cat person :-(

3pm: bloody pheasent directly into my grill, wasnt pretty AT ALL, had to "finish it off", bent grill
due to no number plate.

8pm: on the way back from the pub - a BLOODY PEACOCK nearly bought it by 6 inches!!!!!

that's 3, so i guess im ok for another 11 years.

still not happy about the cat.

bad luck mate

cat not tasty at all

wasn't enough left of the pheasant for even a paltry nugget (paltry/poultry, geddit ?)

Now a peacock would've made a nice roast for Sunday...

Bad luck. In 17 Years of motoring I have hit 1 magpie, 1 pigeon and 1 small hedge bird (finch type thing). I hit the finch doing about 100 leptons and it totalled a brake ducting. No evidence of the finch beyond a few feathers.

I know what you mean about the cat. Ours was hit 5 years ago - we were lucky, the person stopped and after an insurance paid specialist vet he is still going strong with a few pins in his hip.

If its any help there is usually little you can do and this time of year is the worst as it is typically this years young learning the dangers of the world.

i hit a pigeon a fue years back, and about 11 years ago when i lived in Australia hit a wombat. if you have ever ran into a large rock its quiet similar to hitting a wombat. animal walked away with no problems car limped away with a broken exhaust and a undercarriage full of fur.

I bet you car sounded better with one cat removed...paperbag Sorry couldn't resist that one. Maybe it survived, you never know.
I was overtaking 4 cars once and then saw the stupidest bird in the world in the undergrowth. It had to be a pheasant and I knew where it was heading, but I had already committed to the overtake, so had to flawed it. I wont mention what speed I went passed it b, but the other other 4 drivers way of avoiding the creature was to stop and let it cross. When I looked across the missus was under the dash waiting for the bang!

hit a duck last year in the bmw, made a right mess of the duck no problems with the car, but the new hood ornament I gained took a while to shift of the grill

While living in OZ was out for a "careful" drive in my DB6 and my mate in his DB4; if you think a wallaby can't make much of a mess then think again, lucky for me it was my mate's 4 that copped the damage, I think about $15k to repair [in 1979]

I hit a pheasant in my 1st Chimaera at about 50mph - stupid thing hopped out at the last moment. Apart from a bent grille the most irritating bit was the beak "peck" in front edge of the bonnet ! (reckon the little blighter must have turned to look at the oncoming doom!)

Hit a monkjack deer in my 350Z 6 years ago, made a right mess of the whole n/s front £3K worth of damage! 3 or 4 years later on the same bit of road (main road to where I live) I hit another deer in my X5 breaking the headlight and denting the bonnet and wing, several hundred ££ damage. Luckily on both occasions I was doing around 50mph in a 60 zone or it could've been worse.

About 3 years ago a pheasant flew into the n/s wing mirror of my Tuscan smashing it off and scuffing the door, £300 to fix thanks to mates rates for the paint job, RG quote £1K+. The pheasant flew a short distance before crash landing into the trees. I couldn't get to it but bought pheasant from the butchers later to exact some revenge!

one for the anti-hunting & conservation lobbies :

Pheasants only exist as they are bred for shooting. Without our help they would have become extinct millennia ago - evidently they're that thick I doubt they could recognise one end of the opposite sex from the other

1x pheasant at about 1.2leptons....... it exploded. Luckily bumper corner took the brunt and wheel did the rest, so no vehicle damage. Just feathers and gluey guts

I'd change your PH name as it isn't that lucky!

I ran over a deer in the company car a few years back co-incidentally just on the bend near the Lount tip on that stretch of road. I was coming up the hill and doing a fair speed but didn't see it until the last second as it was pitch black and when there were 2 lanes right around the bend. Went straight over the top of it (as it was already lay flat in the road) and took off for a split second. Took it to the garage the following morning and there was flesh and fur all over the underside. Nearly made the guys in the garage sick. I did go back but it was too dangerous to move as it was in the middle of the road.
By the way saw you about a week ago on the newly tarmacced section by Melbourne heading towards Ashby. Felt for you as the stones were bouncing everywhewre.
