Thermal plenum spacer plate.....DONE!!
Discussion
Got round to doing the job last night surprisingly easy to do. Took plenum off and trumpetbase cleaned degreased all areas polished trumpets fitted plate cleaned plenum back on used hylomar blue for sealing connected and fitted pipes stepper motor etc and voila!! Job done! Now guys will I see a difference? Weather permitting tonight I hope so !!
Anyone else done it?

Sounds good - hope it makes a difference?
Did you have to replace the gasket or did blue sealant do the job ?
Just planning ahead
Thanks
i Used hylomar blue a smear on both sides of the spacer and then liberally sealed round the plenum before fitting back. my 4.0HC had done 97000 miles and after cleaning it looked almost new underneath especially the trumpets where they are now mirror finished. im going to test drive her in a bitDid you have to replace the gasket or did blue sealant do the job ?

Thanks
I definitely noticed a difference on mine after fitting.
Before fitting, once the car was up to temp; the plenum would be uncomfortably hot. I'd often want to put my hand on it to secure myself whilst leaning into the engine bay to investigate somesuch knock/tap/rattle/loose electrical connection but find it too hot to do so.
After fitting and up to temp I could have easily sat my bare ass upon it!!

So what's the purpose of this? Is it simply a gasket that prevents heat conduction into the walls of the plenum, and prevents the intake air getting heated? (As well as having the welcome side-effect of allowing the owner to caress their naked body against parts of the engine; and why not? Although I'd be worried about getting my goolies caught in the serpentine belt...)
Does it work?
Does it work?
Just my two pence worth having fitted both.
1) Plenum Spacer: Well worth doing, smoothed out my car nicely between 1500 & 2200 rpm
2) Thermal Plenum Base Gasket: I have a strong feeling this made naff all difference
However as I fitted the two parts at the same time its hard to be 100% certain.
My guess is moving the plenum roof away from the mouths of the velocity stacks (trumpets) is where the improvement comes, in a way its like shortening them while still retaining the length of the inlet tracts.
Plenum Spacer good, Thermal Plenum Base Gasket hogwash.

Interested in this thread. Can you tell me where you got such a spacer?
Tweaking the induction side of any engine is a real black art. I think it is Alfa-Romao which actually had an ingenious variable length induction system on a production car. It's all to do with the speed the air travels at as it enters the engine. Long trumpets help engine torque at low revs as it 'focuses' and increases the air speed into the engine. They do however restrict the air flow at high revs, thus the dilemma of modifying this area of the engine. ACT do several different intake sizes and I understand the Rover V8 engine is very sensitive to this area.
I asume by raising the plenum chamber, it helps and promotes better airflow, hence the better mid range performance as previously quoted. As for reducing the temperature of the chamber, again this must be of help, but difficult to quantify. Most turbo systems have to have an inter-cooler to reduce the temperature gain as air is heated and compressed in the turbo.
Thanks in advance for information about the spacer.

SC Power sell the alloy spacer, thermal insulating gasket and alloy bell mouths. The system was developed to improve engine breathing efficiency resulting with a small power gain and improved throttle response. Feed back is positive as many who fitted these said the engine was much smoother and had resolved many shunting issues.

got a link for the alloy spacer?CHGRIFF said:

The kit was designed to make your wallet very empty! Can`t see how they can charge that much.I purchased the insulator gasket from TVR POWER because it was the only one i could get in the larger size. The Magna Parva inulator gasket is in a different league but only come in 38mm and no bolts needed..You can get the larger diameter insulator from Fleabay but are much thicker and need longer bolts, been told that there not suited to the TVR set up more for the 4x4`s..can`t seem to track down a spacer from any one else except TVR POWER.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
