**Real Top Speed of 500 Chim**

I wondered what the most anyone has had out of there Chim 500 on the clock..I have had 125 on the clock, on the continent ofcourse it was still pulling like a train however road conditions negated me from going faster. The wind noise at that speed was quite considerable and I assume above this would be much worse..

on the clock ? not really a real indication..

err.. i had mine showing 145mph on the way home after picking it up and i wasn't really trying either.

Probably around 165 with the roof up, downhill, shaking you to bits. A 4.0 would do 10mph less (ish)

Had my 4.0 HC up to 135 but I was being shaken to bits by the continental (obviously officer) road surface. Still had tons left but I wanted to keep my fillings.

I've had 145-150mph (indicated on the speedo) from my 4.0 and it still had more but I was a little scared!! Not sure what the actual speed was, but generally my speedo is reasonably acurate.

Definately was doing more than 140 I'd say.

I was all day!!

Surely if its shaking there must be a problem like the wheels arent balanced etc.

My Griff feels as stable at 140 as it does at any speed (apparently, I wouldnt know that though because I have never been over 69.99 miles per half hour)

I had 140 out of my old 400 Chim without too much of an effort..Shaking "oh they all do that sir"

I have heard a true 160 Mph in a 500 is possible...

i've been in a griff 500 at an indicated 165 (at brunters) and as i recall it felt very stable, the chim at 145 did feel a little light! although that could of been me coz i was buzzing so much from being an owner for 10 minutes lol

Have had just over 160 on clock,was still moving up,had to back off,girlfriend was going f*****g ape.

in fairness the last time i went for a (proper) beer with Cuzza and suggested "a half for the road" I was close to turning green...

An indicated 130mph, which felt far more scary and unstable than 145mph in the Corrado.

I have had the baby 4 litre chim (which I think needs a tune) at 125 (GPS not speedo) with the roof on and it was pulling like a train.

I've had a Gendarme verified 217kph out of the chim with the top down...


and working from the rev counter once when the speedo packedup i've pulled just over 150mph


car felt fine, although a 3 lane mway did feel narrow at that speed and the trucks dont half come up quick !!!!

The late great 4.0l managed a speedo indicated 160 on a downhill section of 'private' road a few months back, and 150 was a regular 'backing off' point
off course I could be talking kph if anyone doesn't believe the road was private

I've had 151 showing on the clock of my Chimp 450 when driving the bowl at Millbrook -- roof on, in the rain. It was still pulling and would have done more, but it was starting to get a bit 'floaty' on the banked surface which isn't as smooth as it should be!

it was about 4 years back on the way home from LM and i got away with 600ff it should have been loads more but i couldnt find my licence and passport ( had the entire boot emptied across the hard shoulder) eventually the guy got board and gave me the minimum fine as that needed less paperwork

GPS confirmed 140 with the roof off in my 4.0.Uphill. Allegedly. And i may be lying.
