16" Spider alloys mock up
Discussion
Hey guys
Got lucky on eBay with these. No hubs yet so just a tantilising mock up with them placed next to the car.
I love 16" spiders on the Chimaera, I've wanted them on the car even before I bought the car! so well happy to finally get some.
They have 245 45 16on the rears at the moment but during my retarded mock up session I couldn't help noticing that the 225 50 16's on the Imola wheels seemed taller when the spiders were plonked next to them.
Is it just because the Imolas are still on the axle so a fair comparison isn't possible?? Don't want my rolling radius to change - especially towards gearing the car down! (Smaller rolling radius would increase motorway cruising RPM which I do not want if possible!)

"yes a 45 profile will have a smaller diameter than an 50 profile on the same size wheel." This is not strictly correct as the 45 is the height of the tyre as a percentage of the width of the tyre. e.g. 245/45/16 means the tyre height (or profile) is 45% of 245mm width (110.25mm) and 225/50/16 means the tyre height (or profile) is 50% of 225mm width (112.5mm). I know in this case the 245 has a lower profile than the 225 as stated by dogbucket, but a 255/45/16 will have a taller profile, larger rolling radius, and therefore diameter, as the height of the tyre is 114.75mm.
Since the two tyre profiles in question have a difference of only 2.25mm in the radius, which is less than the amount of wear in a tread from new (nominally 5mm+ of wear), I wouldn't worry about it.

Cool
So have I got what you would call the right size for 16" Spiders on a Chim?
They are 245 45 16 rear and...225 40 16's front? (sorry forgotten what the fronts are!)
Colour balance...emmm yeah, will have a see nx time! haha!
Although that pretty much is a good representation of Venitian blue.
Cheers

If your running 16" on all four corners you will need to make the 1" difference as per standard spec. The only way you can do it is by having the wall height 1" higher on the back to give it that stance ..I did the same thing with 17" wheels , did think it looked a bit odd with different wall heights so i changed the fronts to 16"..
