I have owned the Chim for nearly 4 years and drive with the top off as often as possible.

( quite a few miles to the golf club and back )

With the roof on the car has always seemed warm but I put this down to ' the often mentioned heat soak'.
With the heater turned off, and I had checked the adjustment at the valve and under the dash, the air vents were never cold and the 2 over the tunnel were warm and I used to turn them off.

A recent thread on here prompted me to buy a new valve off Ebay for £4.95 and I changed it on Friday.

What a difference. the vents are now cold and the even the 2 over the tunnel blow cold air in.

£ 4.95 well spent and 30 minutes to change it. I didn't even have to drain the system.

The old valve was leaking as you can blow throught it when closed so it must have been letting a small amount of water through, enough to heat up the cockpit

Might do this myself. Do you have details of the valve you bought? Part number and/or an Ebay link? Thanks!

Could you go into a bit more detail on location of the valve and the procedure, I think I need to do mine too!

Just looked on Clever Trevor and found this:

http://www.clever-trevor.net/TVR/Parts_details/P01...

But it's about forty-four quid. So is there a cheaper alternative?

I'd be interested to know how you do it without draining the system. Any tips?

TBH, I like using Clev Trev but that is excessive!

Try this,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-HEATER-VALVE-CADDY-SCIRO...

This is the first I came across on fleabay, others can be found cheaper.

Method.

Remove passanger carpet from underside of dash to expose and the valve will be in view.

Disconnect hoses and replace on new valve, (I did this without draining).

Disconnect and reconnect cable from heater control.

Check the knob turns the valve completely off, adjust cable to suit.

Replace carpet, top up coolant ...........enjoy!

The one I posted is the exact one, fits perfectly.

I believe they fitted them to various veedubs of that era.

The one that Mike lists on Ebay is a perfect fit.

I lost very little of coolant when I disconnected the valve.

I just put some rag down on the floor.

Be careful of the clip that retains the cable on to the valve as it doesnt come with the new one.

Its not difficult but you may need to be a bit of a contortionist !!

Certainly a job worth doing. I also like to support the usual TVR suppliers but with a £40 difference plus another fiver for P&P then it was a no brainer.

Well posted Mike

In the end I went to the "veedubmachine" site and ordered it there:

http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/index.php?main_page...

It came to about £9 or so by the time VAT and postage was added, but hey - that's better than £44!

I have been out on a run today and the lack of a useful heater at speed has prompted me to make this purchase!

If this doesnt work any other suggestions for improving heater output please? In traffic or slow moving, the car runs at an indicated 90 and the heater seem warm. As soon as I speed up, it all gets a bit chilly. 70c should give a reasonable output?
