Rear Crank Oil Seal
Discussion
I noticed a little patch of oil on the garage floor so took the Chim to my local garage and put it on the ramp.
It seems that the oil maybe coming from the rear crank oil seal.
Has anyone used the oil additive before that swells the seals? Is this a waste of time?
If the seal has to be replaced is it an engine out job or can it be done by removing the box?
Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I had my Griff looked at under warranty from the dealer for what I thought was a leaking rear crank seal. Turned out to be the rear cruciform oil seals.
Just something else to consider.

Just re-read you OP. Yes you should be able to do this in-situ, but you'll have to drop the gearbox out first. If its the cruciform seals, this should also be do-able without pulling the engine, but you will have to remove the rear bearing main cap to get at them. If you are using std mains bolts you may need to change them - cant remember if they are stretch bolts or not.

Thanks everybody
When we removed the clutch inpection cover we could see oil coming from behind the flywheel so I will get it booked in for a more thorough inspection to check all the other things you have all suggested but looks like the box is going to be coming out I fear.
Sounds like this is going to be expensive but I guess I can at least do the clutch at the same time if necessary.

The input shaft seal on my gearbox was leaking when I got it so had to take the box out to do it, so took the opportunity to do the rear crank seal, gearbox output seal, engine bay fuel lines and a gear box oil change. They all cost pennies so worth doing whilst they're all accessible if your not sure when they were last done.
