Alternator wiring (and otter sw earth)
Discussion
Having been helped massively by NeilR (Thanks Neil!) I am nearly out of the electrical rough-patch of my rebuild.
Fans weren't working, and we now know that the earth from the otter switch wasn't earthed.
When I earth it, fans kick in so all good there.
The otter earth goes to the back of the alternator, the W terminal.
1. Is this right?
2. Should I just earth it?
3. There is no external suppressor on the alternator but I have one from an older alternator. Should I fit it?
4. Is it this suppressor that provides the earth?
Many thanks all,
Will post pics and stuff when its all finished and MOTd
Cheers,
Sam

Using the tacho signal to ground the fan relay (via otter switch) is just plain madness IMHO, never understood why that was done on a few cars (unless it was a genuine cock up). Posted many times on that very subject, yet there are some owners that swear by it, I'd just ground to the heads or block if I was you.
