temperature gauge

Bought chim two weeks ago and everything ok, but today temp gauge went haywire.As soon as i set off it reads 80 degrees and in 5 miles is over 100 no fans are working whats gone wrong. Ihave let the car completely cool down just before writting this and gauge still reads 80 without the engine running please help.

temp sender is probably shagged (please excuse the technical vocabulary). Its not ideal, but you can use the oil pressure to give you some idea of the temp.
