Recently upgraded the cooling system using new silicone hoses, stainless pipes and the large core Radtech radiator, at the same time removing the Leven Technology cool running kit i.e. fans switch and thermostat and reverting back to standard.

The car runs fine though unless stationary the temp never gets above 70/75 and over the weekend on a late run back from Silverstone stuck at 70 most of the way. Having had all the concerns of the usual over heating I’m know thinking it may be to cool and confusing the ECU into over fuelling?

Any one had similar with new Radtech rad?

Similar in my car with a recored/upgraded std rad - nowt to worry about in itself as temp readings taken from the header tank will be 'somewhat' different...

Are the temp readings taken from the header tank? Not in my car the last time I looked... They are taken from the engine near the thermostat and should read the same whatever radiator is installed. Up to 82 °C the thermostat should be closed, so the radiator should not even be used.

I suggest you test the opening temperature of your thermostat in a saucepan full of water with a suitable thermometer, as you might find it opens far below 82 °C.

I once had temperatures similar to yours and my thermostat turned out to start opening at 35 °C eek

No, but that's where we got temp readings from using probes when we suspected a cooling problem... and the readings there were erm, different from those on the dashboard temp gauge, the sender of which is installed in such a way that it's 'air cooled' when on the move... your 70 degree temp reading when sitting at 70 mph on the motorway is more like 80-85 in reality I think. smile
