The time has come to replace my cam and I was wondering if there is anything specific to look out for?
I have a couple of questions so any feedback would be greatly appreciated:

1: What size is the nut that secures the bottom (main) pulley and is it a conventional right hand thread?
2: What tool is needed to remove the rocker covers? It’s a bi-hex head possibly around 8mm but all my sockets are too fat to fit as the clearance is tiny between the head and the side of the rocker cover.

3: Is the front timing cover tricky to remove? So far I have got the water pump off but two of the long bolts that run right through to the engine block have corroded in the holes and I had to grind off the heads. I can see it being a fight every step of the way!!

Any tips or advice gratefully received.

Crank nut is 24mm normal thread

I hammerd an old 1/4 drive socket on 7mm??

And replaced with a set of Allen heads from eBay

Don't forget the 2 bolts that go through the sump for timing cover removal

There was no need to remove the water punp.

Rocker covers are 8mm 12 point socket IIRC

Many thanks for the tips.
Before I strip any further I need to do a compression test (just to make sure all is normal) so I need to spin the engine over with all the plugs out, hence my next question..... which one is the fuel pump relay to isolate the supply and stop me flooding the garage with super unleaded!;)

Many thanks

Dont forget to make sure the throttle is held open also when doing the comp test.
I have a seperate toggle switch wired in to the fuel pump so can isolate the fuel supply.
Also acts as a secondary immobiliser wink

you can get the rocker cover socket from Halfrauds, needs to be the long resch one, but they are nearly always in stock.

i wouldnt bother fiddling with relays - just pull the power feed off the fuel pump, and pull the HT lead out of the coil.

I also pulled the wires off the coil. Seem to remember something about a charge needing to go somewhere ?
Better make sure its dead than a high voltage shock

The relays are shown on:
