Dodgy relays

Anybody know what the tall grey relay does that sits in a cluster under the top half of the dash? (passenger side. Mine keeps clicking on an off even when the ignition is off, so I removed it but it makes no difference to the car!

I took it out because last time I had a dodgy relay I left it in the fuse box and it burst into flames
That was the relay for the interior light, so I'm not taking any chances!

Isn't that the door / alarm relay. Driven by those push switches on the door seal.

I remmember mine going all peculiar when I washed the door a bit hard and knocked of the rubber pad that comes into contact with the push switch.

On the other hand, I may to talking complete bollocks after consuming a rather excellent bottle of red!!
