There's a maniac on the above thread suggesting that Chims will make cheap Donor cars for building a Griff. I say we lynch him.

Have you done this yet or are you still researching it?Ribol said:
Because a Griff/Chim will always be a sought after very usable sportscar, whereas that will always be just another kit car, albeit a less common one.
Speaking as the (past) owner of two Chimaeras I don't think they are particularly special. Sure they give more than most cars at the same price but many of their components can be found in other manufacturers parts bins and isn't that the same as most kits? I'd wager that a well built example of the picture above will hold its value at least as well as an average Chimaera. With sub-£5000 cars falling into the hands of a certain type I'm afraid there are already two kinds of car. The enthusiast-owned car and the other which is bought cheap because it needs work, run until the first large repair is needed then either fixed on the cheap or flogged off amid much moaning about TVRs and their unreliability (neatly overlooking the fact they've abused the car). Sadly this is going to taint the image a little. The 'usable' argument carries limited weight, how many TVR owners use theirs every day? I did and do but I know I am in the minority.

I am coming more from the direction of touring than using a car every day, I have another car for that. Yes you can tour in anything from a motorbike to a Rolls but IMO the Griff/Chim does the job very well without making it into hard work.We do at least one decent Switzerland/Italy type eurohoon plus at least 5 long weekends in France each year. Luggage is secure and the car can handle all types of weather when parked or driving from a sunny day by the coast in France like on Sunday to coming home on the M25 in the pi55ing rain yesterday.
That is my definition of usable.

Putting a Rover engine in a Cobra replica will devalue the car against a similar build with a Yank V8 fitted.

What is the Red car in the picture....very nice!
It's a Sammio Spyder. Don't be put off by the mentions of Herald and Scimitar donors, they're within 1" of a Chimaera wheelbase. There's a difference of 6" in track but the TVR has over an inch of offset and to keep the period look the build would need thinner wheels anyway so eminently achievable.I've no connection with the company other than as a potential customer, they've started producing other models too. One to watch I think.

Don't mock the afficted. He's probably going through the mano-pause and it's the wrong time of the month. All Giffaloes do it, some say they can use an epilator one-handed?????????;)
No doubt about the one-handed epilation legend, here's the proofhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8kYsiReNik
He had to borrow a Morgan for the day while the (chimaera style) vented bonnet was being fitted to the griff

Well, I guess it makes sense in so much that there are mugs out there who'll pay significantly more for a less practical and less aerodynamically efficient version of the same car. There's a maniac on the above thread suggesting that Chims will make cheap Donor cars for building a Griff. I say we lynch him.
