Hi all,

Going on a trip to Scotland in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! It's my first 'road trip' in the car and am well excited.
Can't afford a full TVR service (and it's not time for one yet) but would like to do a few checks with my local garage who I trust.

Can you suggest any things I should definitely get him to check before I set off?

Things have all been working pretty swimmingly recently.. (famous last words!)

I was going to try and get an oil filter change for a start, check all the fluids obviously, stock up on a couple of bottles of oil, replace the rusty windscreen wiper arms, check

As you can see, I'm not experienced in such trips, but can do virtually nothing myself if I get caught out apart from call the AA. So, I'd like to do what I can to check before I head off that the major things are generally ok..

Any advice gratefully appreciated,

Cheers,
Dave

Spare bulbs and a belt might be useful, and a credit card with plenty of capacity for fuel.

I hope you have a great time, your travelling through beautiful parts of the country.

Checking the things already mentioned and taking a few sensible bits like fuses and bulbs is obviously wise, but I wouldn't worry too much. You are still in the uk and should be able to get anything you needed if the worst happened. You will have a fab time, I hame been to Scotland each year in mine for the last three years, amazing roads, up through glencoe is great (and good beer at the Clachaig if you are passing that way). If you can make it as far as applecross not only are the roads great but the sea food at the pub is fantastic.

We are heading back up in early October and have a number of routes planned out, I can't wait.

Have fun.

P.s. Don't worry about the length of the run either, I always find mine just gets smoother and better the longer the run.

Honestly - if its running like a dream leave the bloody thing alone - take a few spares as discussed and get it serviced when you come back. If the garage upset something then at least it doesn't come to light half way through your holiday.

Fill it up with fuel and just go!

1000 miles isn't far - maybe 4 tanks of gas. Despite TVR's reputation these cars aren't that unreliable. The more you drive them the less issues you have, but if you do have a problem that stops you in the back of beyond its likely going to be more serious than you can fix with a few spares and a travel toolkit.

Ever noticed it's always an Audi that's sitting at the side of the motorway with the bonnet up?!

Hope you have a great trip.
