just got my Chim 500 back from an engine rebuild and its holding revs at about 1700rpm when coming to a standstill in traffic or slowing down so makes driving in traffic a bit difficult, it does drop down to about 1000 rpm after about 15/20 seconds stood still.

Any idea what could be causing it it?

The stock answer is 'stepper motor'. It gets sooted up and this causes it to sit too far open. Remove, clean, refit, all should be well.
