not the usual 'how do i get in', but it seems to be stuck open. not that big a deal, as the strut is rubbish so it stays down ok , but would like to sort it.

It works via a solenoid pulling a Bowen cable and a spring return.

My pull cable is fairly loose and the spring is free to pull back the latch mechanism.

Try a few squirts of light oil on the latch and let it soak in.

Remember that you could use WD40 but t is not a long-term lubricator, it was originally designed to displace water, a by-product is that is does lubricate.

thanks Al,
sorry i haven't got round to replying. think the solenoid's had it, TBH.
the mech is free to roll over, but the solenoid looks as though it's jammed on the pull back in the 'open' position.
we have solenoids at work, which when they fail in extreme have the whole body of the coil expand so much it locks the moving peice.
as i can't budge mine i'm assuming that this is the case.
either that or there's a washer sitting over the contacts on the switch..
