Alarmed or not?

My 1994 Chimaera did not come with any sort of alarm blipper.
When the doors are locked via the key the indicators flash a couple of times and, what I presume to be a imoboliser light flashes on the dash.
Do I have an alarm fitted or am I fooling myself?

Yes, you have the standard TVR alarm (not sure of make, but if original its not a Cat 1 either !!). When LED on dash flashes, open door or, with hood down, jump in and wait to see if Siren sounds. If not you have an alarm but a duff Siren and maybe a duff micro-wave detector !! Also lots of probs can occur with pin switches at bottom of sill/door (if your interior light works as advertised, then they're probably OK).

Early Chimaera's did not all come with blippers - I've a '93 and just upgraded alarm to Cat 1 and remote blipper.

I have a 1994 Chimaera which I have to lock/unlock with the key (how 1970's). There is a strange little plastic thing attached to key ring that I have to jangle (tech talk) near the dash that makes the red light on the steering column turn off.

I have a standard info letter placed in my handbook stating

"Car is fitted with a Gemini alarm system. It has a 2 circuit immobiliser which will knock off the petrol pump and engine management system when activated".

Yip....early ones had a Gemini alarm which is activated / de-activated via the door locks...push button down, turn key anticlockwise a quarter turn, do the hoakey coakey and turn around...or at least something like that...described in handbook.!!

Or, as I found out, disconnect the battery and it automatically activates....much to my annoyance (and the neighbors) as I hurriedly scrambled through the handbook to find out how to disarm it


Not sure about the janglin stuff near the dash..?

A red flashing led on the dash shows that it is armed.

There's a good chance that it is knackered due to the age of the unit and location just behind the grille beside the airfilter....subject to all the damp crud from the road...
