Front Brakes

Hi!
Newbie here, and therefore as yet ignorant of most of the ways of the TVR... Not least because I don't yet own one!

Had for several years been driving round in a 1981 Capri 2.8i (I know. Sorry.) which had various things done to it over its life, not least of which was fitting some four-pot HiSpec callipers on 285mm drilled ventilated discs at the front. That car's now gone to the eternal scrapyard in the sky (hence my being in the market for an upgrade) but before I got rid of it I took the brakes (and some other bits) off.

I'm thinking of getting a Chim 4.5, and was wondering whether the HiSpec brakes I now have sitting in my garage are any better than those fitted as standard on the car? If not, I'll just sell them along with the other bits to raise some more of the money that my hankering after a Chimaera is clearly going to cost me...

But might they be worth transferring over?
Or are the standard brakes more than adequate?

I'd be grateful for any help or advice!

Standard ones are 260mm on the front of 500s (probably 450s too) and general opinion is there is too much rear bias as standard. A 285mm upgrade is popular choice, so I'd say well worth considering.

Thanks! Guess I'd better keep a hold of them then... Anyone know a good thing to cover discs with while they're not on a car? Oil/wax or something? I've already got an irritating level of rust (is it?) on them, though nothing a good few miles worth of braking won't clear. Don't want it to get much worse though...

A quick wipe with an oily rag is usually enough to stop things rusting for a few months.
