Adjusting Rear Shocks

Does anyone have any idea on the amount of spring platform adjustment required to raise or lower the car a given amount? I have Spax adjustable shocks and want to raise the back about 20mm now that the car has settled down and I've got the 17" wheels on. I assume by looking at the suspension set up at the back that raising the spring platform 20mm won't give me a 20mm increase in height. was wondering if anyone had a rough guide?

Haven't got the answer to the question, but I did have some fun in the past with adjustable shocks on my Chimaera. Nearly failed the MOT because the headights hadn't been adjusted to take account of their new projecting angle. Worth remembering this once you've found the ride height you like. Bugger of a job adjusting the headlights too.

You are correct - 20mm on spring platform does not equal 20mm suspension change.

Can only suggest you take the distance from ground to a point on the rear suspension, and turn the spring platform "one-turn". Then take it form there.

I've AVOs and did it in similar fashion - did find you had to "drive" the car after each change to "settle" suspension !! Glad I did it two weeks ago - this weekend would have been too hot for work like that !!

Yep, was fine till I started "Driving" it then heard a rubbing noise even on the slightest of bends. Don't supose anyone knows what size C Spanner i need for Spax shocks?

Get an adjustable one - easier to use.

Shouldn't need a C spanner unless the shocks are badly corroded - just take the wheel off leaving the suspension at full droop, grab the spring firmly with both hands and turn it - the spring seat will go with it. On ride height, as a rough guide 10mm change on the spring seat will give about 15mm change in ride height.

Totally concur greeenv8s - but I used a "strap wrench" used for filters and watched the whole spring move as the seat turned !!

Finally found it ..sadly it doesn't seem to say any spanner sizes on it.. sorry...
