I had my Chim serviced last month and until the weekend it's been running like a dream. I've just been out to start it and its runinng as rough as hell, cutting out and the MIL light is coming on and going off. I'll check the stepper motor's clean but if it's not that what should I do?

Hi. I had a similar problem, mine turned out to be one of the lamda sensors, worth a check.

Is it just at tick over?

I had the throttle pot fail on me and it caused this problem as well. would run for a mins at tick over and die. Easy to check just put a multi meter over it and see if it climbs up smoothly

Well, I've cleaned the stepper motor even though it looked OK and now (touch wood) it seems to be running OK. Surely it cannot be that easy!

I had a similar problem with idol..

Cleaned the stepper motor and it ran real smooth.

Now when I start her up the revs are really high around 20,000..

It seems to stay high until it's warmed up?

Does this happen to your too?

I'm gonna take another look tonight, clean stepper again and see what happens!

Nightmare trying to look cool at the lights when the revs are refusing to fall below 20k (and i have the exhaust sleeved)

Cor, and here was I thinking that anywhere near 7K was going some for an RV8. wink

Anyway, in answer to the OP and from my experience I'd check for air leaks and coolant level (don't laugh...) in addition to the suggestions above. smile

I agree with 900T-R may be an air leak, you did connect the electrical connection on the stepper motor, check all the other hoses for splits, the hose to the fuel regulator comes off easy this could be a source of the air leak.

It really was that easy and as a bonus it's running better when cold that I can ever remember. I'd recommend a stepper clean-up to anyone.
