Is it worth fitting a oil cooler on these engines ,seen the kits for sale and there not very expensive ,would be a nice job to do in the winter..My old MG had a cooler fitted as standard so why not the V8..! they do run hot so why not ..

Make sure you have a thermostat fitted if you do as you do not want to over cool the oil.

Cerbs have them as standard

I fitted mine in the front nose cone loads of room, You can just see it too the left of the intercooler. I got a sandwich plate adapter. Very easy to do.

I also fitted accurate gauges and its amazing how slow oil takes to warm up, on the road I have never seen oil temps over 100. But I am now super cautious about giving it any too soon.

Got mine from MattyZX Racing or summat like that on egay.

Daz, piece of cake to fit, it's a bit of plumbing smile, from the rad in the nose cone to the sandwich plate that screws on to your oil filter pickup.
Then screw a speed 6 filter, (shorter) on to the sandwich plate.
The sandwich plate has a built in thermostat and only opens when oil is hot.

Even with a cooler, I have seen 115 deg temps, (oil) when on track, imagine the temp without a cooler!

Not for our cars on the above link but you get the idea. Remove the oil filter fit the sandwich plate refit the filter then pipe to either end of the oil cooler. Job Done. Then maybe 350.5bhp biglaugh

Daz.

Just so happens I have my p & j in bits!

Pics show oil cooler from the rear.

Pipes from sandwich plate that go through inner wing and to cooler.

Close up of sandwich plate that "sandwiches" inbetween filter and block. Thermostat in the sandwich plate.

It's been there for about 3 years.

Typically T/D temp, (water) never exceeds 75 deg.

Daz if you fit one it will work it has too. Mines blocked by a big intercooler and it still works as confirmed by my aftermarket oil temp gauge.

Mine was fitted only because the turbos heat the oil quite alot, now there back at safe levels. Some people say the Rover v8 doesnt need one, I would fit one even if I didnt have the turbos. I like to keep things as cool as possible. My water never goes over 86 degrees and my oil never over 100.

Questions, questions, I bet you sat in the front at school teacher.

Seriously Daz, all under control.

I replaced the old oil pressure gauge with a dual mechanical pressure/oil temp gauge.

The sender for the temperature is on the delivery to the cooler.

After about 10 minutes or so driving, the stat in the sandwich plate opens and the gauge operates and you can keep an eye on the oil temperature, it makes interesting reading the difference between road and track.
Temp follows water temp on the road but on the track at full chat, water syays at around 75 and oil temp goes up to 115!!

The filter screws on to the sandwich plate.

You can't use a standard filter because due to the thickness of the plate, the filter fouls the chassis, that's why I use a shorter filter.
