Hi,
tested my AFM( 2 years old!!)because the car is too rich ( Around 60 liter to do 150miles), black smoke etc and the readings on my multimeter are :
Turning switch on without starting
connected to Red/black (ground) and Blue/green 0.015v must be normally 0.3V I think
" " Red/black and Brown/orange 11.9V correct
" " Red/black and Blue/red 0.018V

starting the car give me similar results

After that I have found a screw on the AFM and tried to adjust something, now I have between
Red/black and Blue/red 1.7V correct for a catalyst car ????
for RED/black and Blue/green it is the same without starting 0.015V
and at idle it is the same reading!!!

My AFM is faultly I am pretty sure, is there another test I can try?
Do you know where I can found a new one?
I have seen this on ebay, cheap but good???

Thanks Chris

That AFM is faulty then. As for cheap after market parts, notice the lack of any reference to a genuine Lucas part? The Chinese are now producing 5AM replicas, and if they are anything like as bad as the Bosch copies I looked at its a complete waste of money, but please feel free to check if it is Lucas or otherwise. I think a genuine Lucas unit is around £190 new, but a recon' one is significantly less.

Thanks Mark for the link, I contact them this week.
The AFM has been changed by a Tvr dealer, no label on it, perhaps a copy !!
The heat in the engine bay may have cooked the AFM?
Do you know if all the 5AM AFM are the same, like this Jaguar part, the wiring of the junior power connector for example, etc?

Other question, could I start the Chim without the AFM connected to see any change and are these parts number correct for a 96 Chimaera 400 AFM if you know?

I think the jag one is basically the same but without the CO trim adjustment, but assuming you are running lambda probes, then this is not used anyway. As for part numbers, I think the variances for the basic 5 AM are down to the castings bolted on to the basic AFM itself that fit the various Land Rover / Range Rover air box's, and I was going to say you can always swap them over....but I dont know if the replicas are that close to do that. I think the TVR used the Range Rover 3.9 one, but I dont know the OEM number.

The engine will run without the AFM, using the throttle pot, but its very rough.
