Went to see a chimaera today (first of 3 I am planning to see this week) this one is relatively local if a 4 hour trip is local :-)
Good points- it was cosmetically tidy with a bit of crazing of the fibre glass on rear bumper and smal crack in dash being only real faults. it also appears to be well looked after with as far as I could see solid outriggers.
Bad points- it has been sorn for nearly two years with owner starting it up and running around block every couple of weeks only. It is due a service and not currently MOTd.
So not sure if I am brave enough for this one.
Next one well 8 hour round trip this time

Assuming you're confident that the car is generally in good condition the fact that it's been SORN'd shouldn't be too big a deal. I SORN'd my car in 2003 initially for just one year, but one thing lead to another and unfortunately the car ended up in storage for 8 years! So not sure if I am brave enough for this one.
I got it back on the road at the beginning of this summer and after replacing general service consumables (to be on the safe side) and a change of tyres, it passed an MOT first time. In hindsight it shouldn't have as I put it into a full service after the MOT pass and one of the rear brake pads was found to be crumbling and about to disintegrate. The service found no other problems and, fingers crossed, I've done ~800 trouble free miles.I guess my point is that as long as the car you're looking at IS in good condition and has been looked after, being laid up for two years is nothing compared to mine and mine has been ok... (fingers crossed, touch wood, I'm gonna regret this post if it doesn't start for work tomorrow morning?!?!)

I have been following your search/posts with interest. If any are in the north west/cheshire/staffordshire area, that you intend to view, i would be more than happy to tag along and give a seconed opinion. Due to work would have to be early evening or at weekends.Good points- it was cosmetically tidy with a bit of crazing of the fibre glass on rear bumper and smal crack in dash being only real faults. it also appears to be well looked after with as far as I could see solid outriggers.

Good luck with the search, Tom.
