Still got hot start prob
Discussion
Still have a problem with hot starts. The stepper motor has been cleaned again and again, the fuel rail and pump and pipes have been insulated to kerb vapourisation. The starter motor has been heat protected. Any ideas????????? Plus when I start car in the mornings I leave it to warm up for about 6 mins or so, then when I set off the engine sometimes cuts out (very similar to stall) so it lurches then re fires?
If the motor turns the engine over but it won't start then the starter is OK. If not then a recon is needed. Relatively straightforward to change providing you have a decent allen key socket set with long extension to undo the bolts and a way of getting the car off the ground to get under it. Details in the bible.
If the starter is OK, then get the car to a dealer/specialist and check for fault codes. You will spend a lot of money replacing injection bits as nearly all can cause your symptoms. There are some tests that can be done but they are not comprehensive and will often show a part is fails the test not that it is OK. Again details in the bible.

diy...depends on your patience. top retaining bolt (allen) can be tricky. needs an extension longer than the starter, preferably ratcheted. there's a number of past threads on it. i picked up the new starter (prestolite) from www.paddockspares.com - free delivery.
When it is hot the starter turns ok and the engine fires but it sounds like only a couple of cylinders. It goes chug chug chug very quietly for about 5 seconds and then dies??????????????????????? But if you give it throttle before you hot start it, she fires no probs.
