I used to have disapearing voltage and was seriously considering a new alarm system as none of the keys fobs worked either. One side of the indicators liked to stay on randomly and lights on, with the dashboard lights on as well, did interesting things to the dial readings. There was a cold start problem, with the car unwilling to idle from cold and the rev counter was a bit hyper below 3200 revs but perfect above. This sounds a bit dramatic but I did 5000 trouble free miles last year, so not that bad. The biggest problem was not starting if the 12 volts had gone walkies and the engine needed a bit of encouragement to fire from overnight cold.

A day or two with an auto electrician/mechanic and everything with the alarm and lights seems now seems perfect after a clean of the alarm relays and a new earth feed to the dashboard. The car has been outside untouched for two weeks and unlocked on the fob and turned over very lively and first time this morning, so good news.

Whilst under the bonnet he found an HT problem on his krypton tester, that I wasnt aware of! It was cured by re-routing the spark plug leads to give some cross-over. He changed the temperature sensor that is linked to the cold start but it hasnt made a lot of difference and the car still wont idle from cold without some encouragement with the throttle, for at least 30 seconds. It is very rough until some warmth has found its way into the engine and the rev counter is still hyper up to 3200 revs.

Any thoughts on the two remaining irritations please?

I can live with the rev counter (though would love to sort it) but as it gets colder the cold start idle is going to be more of an issue. It starts and idles perfectly when warm or cooled for a couple of hours.

The only thing I can think is that the rover sensor he put in is either faulty or not a TVR specific one?
