Hi folks,

Just purchased an ACT Y Piece that I will be fitting next weekend.

I fully appreciate the biggest change will be in exhaust volume & note, not so much a performance improvement.

However I have read a 5-10hp increase is possible from the ACT Y piece with additional improvements to throttle response, the way the engine spins up & a reduction in under bonnet temps.

To be honest this is more of a vanity purchase, ever since I heard "Tom's Dad's" pre-cat Griff I knew I would be doing something to get closer to that glorious pre-cat sound.

My Chim runs the standard silencer box, but I did remove the pre-cats last year.

So, does anyone have direct experience of the HP increases just by fitting the ATC Y Piece in place of the standard Cat one?

Thanks, Dave.

Don't have any hard evidence to show an increase, but I am sure my car has more power after fitting one.

It's not just me, the guys at Dulford also say the same.

It certainly seems to breathe more freely and the throttle response is crisper.

........... and the sound is cloud9

I am pleased with mine and thought it made a small improvement. Noise was a disappointment if i am honest. I managed to listen to Garlicks one today - full sleeve, pre-cats in and ACT y piece and it sounded pretty good. He might be able to tell you if it made a difference or not?

Removing Pre-cats makes a difference apparantly.

Mine is ACT SuperSports exhaust (straight through), no pre-cats, ACT Y-piece.

I personally really like the sound, but it is very loud so not to everyone's taste.

The noise as the revs go through 3000 and upwards is extremely addictive though ....

Pure pre-cat Griffith sound effects and it feels like another 10hp.

Throttle response is noticeably better too.

Was yours the 'bolted' original version and you used the clamp for the new Y piece?

Just curious....

I have just bought the ACT Cherry bomb system to go with the y-piece. Mrs B is less than thrilled about it as she thinks the existing one is too loud and a bit anti-social for the neighbours. I cant wait to get it on the car.

Cheers Dave. I cant wait to hear it and was gutted not to get it on in time for TiTT 7 last Sunday.

I have done a couple of things to the car since it got 240 on the RR (smooth bore and sorted an HT problem I didnt know I had until put on a krypton tuner) and it definately revs stronger at higher revs.

In an ideal world, I was hoping to get another reading before putting on the new system and then again afterwards to see what difference the different bits and pieces made. I was expecting it to be the up with things above but not sure what the ACT system would do to the power. Any thoughts on the ACT system?

Very nice.... the sound alone has got to be worth at least 10BHP wink

Mine certainly more responsive with it on but I am not sure how much of that is all the extra noise clouding my judgement.

I think you've hit the nail on the head MPoxon, the ACT Y piece makes the car sound so much better you tend to drive it differently.

Whatever the power improvements are is almost academic, its the way the car feels, and makes you feel when driving it.

I measure my car in smiles not horsepower, & the ACT Y piece makes me grin like a fool biggrin

yes same here. The decat Y just makes the already large TVR silly grin even bigger when you boot it. Like you say you do tend drive the car differently any opportunity to get the hammer down and hear the glorious sound.

In fact here is a very small clip of my drive home today. A very congested and slow moving Dartford tunnel at 16:30 today but still managed to get a tiny bit of acceleration wink

I seem to use a lot more fuel now scratchchin
