MPG with hood down?
Discussion
Not really bothered what mpg my Chimaera 4.0 churns out, but i calculated my last tankfull to be just 9mpg ! ! !
Was mainly hood down, 'brisk' driving though.
Also, my current tank, looks like it'll be about the same.
The aerodynamics can't be all that great with the hood down, but what fuel efficiency do you get?
(btw, with roof up, i still only make about 17mpg - must be the way i drive!)

I'm a new owner of a Chimaera 500, bought it last Saturday, and have been monitoring my mpg to make sure I know what the fuel gauge is really telling me.
With the good weather I've been blatting about with the hood down. My standard commute is 30miles down M4 plus 30 miles up the A420 and obviously the opposite to get home. My mpg is about 20mpg and yes the hood is down on the M4.
But as a new owner I am driving a tad carefully at the moment which may need to be taken into consideration.

i did 210 miles at the weekend and averaged 21mpg
this i was a mixture of fast A roads 80-95, alot of slow crusing A roads 40-60 and some B road fun
i also did a few over taking manovers on the A roads... lets face it a thrid gear full bore overtake with a change to fourth see's you moving err.. quite fast

You get 100 miles from a tank full of petrol (about £40)… use sure…??!
You should be able to get about 50 ltrs in the tank, when it’s almost empty. I’ve put just over 51 ltrs in before (I believe they’re meant to be a 52 ltr tanks) so I was running on fumes.
Even living/driving around Milton Keynes, lots of short racing straight (aka dual carriageways) added together with wonderful chicanes (aka – roundabouts) – I can still get about 18 mpg – c190 – 200 out of a tank. And I don’t hang around…! 9 MPG..!! I’d want an 8.0 Dodge Viper to return my than that…! You must drive very, very, very fast and flat out everywhere…!

With the roof on I got from Leicester to London on a quarter of a tank = 108 miles down the M1 busy but moving all the way at 70. Haven't done 400 miles on the same tank, have done over a smidge over 300 though. I reckon without accelerating hard it could be done. Then again why get a tvr if your not going to have fun?
On the way back from Le Mans, 2 up with loads of gear + the roof down (4.5), the mgp was scarily low. I didn't bother measuing it but we started with 3/4 tank and filled up twice (both times at around just under 1/4). It was scary how quickly it was drinking petrol. Mind you I spent most of it at 90+ once we worked out the cops had called it a day.

Don't know what I was running on cos have managed to squeeze in just over 54 ltrs twice recently. Must stop having fun and look at the fuel gauge more often. 380 miles on a tank once - roof up motorway stuff. Thats 31 mpg, blimey I need to use the right pedal more - unless my tank is bigger.

I get about 28mpg roof down motorway driving with the top off and 31 ish with the roof on.
Full bore hooning is high teens with about 2 mpg between top on/off.
Possibly off topic but I got a dramitic decrease in mpg when the lambda sensors failed on the Tuscan (down to low teens !). Perhaps you need to get them checked PDQ as if that is your reason for low consumption you will knack the cats fairly quickly.
