Can't get in and electrical failure

Hi Everyone

Hope you can Help.

Just gone to start up the chim and it wouldn't turn over and the alarm started to go off, tryed lights and just heard lots of clicking from footwell, checked the electrical cables but wasn't sure where to start. So just had a fiddle, went back to start up and it did begin to turn over but just before it fired I heard a loud click and same symptoms. (managed to stop alarm with fob)

But this time I closed the doors and guess what? yep can't get in and when I press button under mirror all I can hear is lots of continuous clicks from solenoid.

If anyone has any ideas of fault I would really appreciate your help. also is the way to gain access the same for recessed number plates as it is for the flush plates. I have the recessed one by the way.

Anyway heres hoping.

Battery flat or badly connected sounds about right. Mine does this if I dont screw down the disconnect tightly.

I have now managed to get in but the electrics seem to have BEEEEEESERK, the indicator internal light keeps flashing, theres a whole array of clicks and buzzes coming from inside passanger side dash as well as footwell. Still won't start, I'll have another look in the morning but its beyond me.

Cheers for that Dave, but the battery is only a few weeks old, I think I'll check the big fuse as this could have gone and be draining the battery any thoughts?

Does it all start going haywire when you try and engage the starter? If this happens that is normally a bad connection to the battery.

Alt fuse will only have affect in use / charging IMHO (but I dont have one - and not completely sure I would want one!).

Yes it is mainly when I turn the key to engage starter so it looks like it could be a dodgy connection, could well have been when I put battery in. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for the response.

Check the battery connections are good - clean and tight. With a 12V system even a little resistance can stop a lot of current from flowing.

Thanks for the help I have just checked and everything seems very clean and as tight as a ducks botty.

Managed to jump start this morning from a battery pack but battery doesn't seem to be taking a charge even after a drive of over 1.5 hours,

I suppose this could either be a duff battery or Alternator isn't doing job properly and the charge light has failed.

Bearing in mind I'm very clueless when it comes to electrics and cars, is there a way to check alternator? the voltmeter I have doesn't have a specific reading just a string of LEDS next to numbers 3 , 6 , 12 etc.
