What cam is this?
Discussion
Pulled this out today from my V8D 4.6
Best dyno ive had is 281 bhp and 310ftlb's
But seeing it has the standard timing chain and its in brand new condition after 50k miles with that engine, tells me V8D didn't fit this cam, so its been done but some one else recently
I cant see any piper/kent/Real steel markings on it
Cant some one identify this cam?
Im praying its a stock cam!

Considering the cam is almost new, and I measured the valve lift at 0.380 I'd say that's it's a standard cam,
Which is good and bad news
Bad because I've been trying to screw 300bhp from it for a few months,
Good because I'm going to get a huge boost in power with the cam I have in mind

Alex, beware.
Dont get too greedy on your cam spec chasing high end numbers.
You really dont want a cam that doesn't wake up until 3500rpm just so you have a bit extra at 6500. It will probably be a right royal pain in the ass in traffic.
If you are set on a wild cam are you also looking at the necessary valve train mods required to cope with the lift and high revs?

When you say std are you talking 435?... like the one I pictured?.... mine says KC on the end (Kent Cam's I assume)... but I dont have any casting marks (numbers / letters) on the cam at all?.. not one... just the ident on the end?
When I say standard I mean sd1-range rover spec!
I did measure it against a 435 last night and it was alot bigger

Oh sorry Alex I thought you were talking proper man cams.
Not the halfway house girly ones such as 234's.
I have a cam from my destroyed engine that has a mild 248 inlet and a manly 256 exhaust. i guess that would be too much even for you.

s in 404 Alex? I did consider the 404 myself as V8D said it would probably have better road manners than my 500spec/435 right? i don't consider the 234 that wild anyways
Im not 100% sure on the spec of the 404, but I will be going solid lifter etc,
It will be around 290-310 duration and 0.500-0.550 lift 108 lca
I would love you tell you more, but the person sorting it for me never picks the phone up!

I am thinking of some thing between the line of the 248 and 256, but your is abit odd? am I right?
Thats a long duration cam but is hydraulic so very different to the 248 and 256 in terms of lift etc.
My cam was designed for heavy nitrous abuse but will also work well with forced induction. That was the plan but luck has been against me so its at least a year away.
I am happy to have fun with Peters (and Brummmies) old motor and use a modest amount of gas to come second only to Paul at Shakey (if he doesnt break something before completeing a run).

Do you only race in straight lines ? Have you ever thought of buying something designed and built just for drag strips! Must admit it does get a bit boring after a while..

No Daz, but mostly yes because its relatively cheap compared to track days. Its only boring if you are running the same time all day.
You need to tweak and tune to improve your times.
It also makes it a lot more interesting if you organise pairing up with similar cars or better still run a few grudge races with those who continuosly spout bhp figures on forums
